Is it just me or does the fall scream comfort food?
I don’t even know why I’m asking that. I KNOW it’s not just me.
Come cold weather we all just want to cozy up under a blanket and eat creamy, carby foods until the end of time because it just makes the cold weather a little more bearable.
Well I am all about eating the “real versions” of foods (you can check out my food philosophy here) I also appreciate classic comfort foods made healthy and I figured you might too!
What are comfort foods?
Comfort food is typically a food that provides some kind of nostalgic or sentimental value to someone. A lot of times they are easy to prepare and higher in carbs. The sentimental value might be individual or could be a cultural thing!

Healthy Comfort Food Staples
You can make healthy comfort food recipes by doing few swaps, but you’ll need to have a few ingredients on hand that usually aid you in making these foods a little more nourishing:
Greek yogurt – a lot of times you can swap Greek yogurt into recipes that call for sour cream to give the same creaminess. Although, there is usually a little bit more tang when you swap in Greek yogurt, so be careful! I love using it for Greek yogurt Mac and Cheese.
Chickpea pasta – I love using chickpea pasta instead of regular flour pasta as it adds some complex carbs, fiber and protein. This kind of pasta keeps you full and also tastes great! I love using it to make Instant Pot Pasta Primavera
Air Fryer – okay, this isn’t an ingredient. BUT, a lot of comfort foods are deep fried so using an air fryer can give you that same crispy goodness but without having to use as much oil! I LOVE my Big Boss Air Fryer!
