Can you believe Thanksgiving is almost upon us?
I personally am grateful that I don’t have to share my Birthday with it this year. Ever since moving to the States, there are years where my birthday falls on the same day (Nov 23) and I am just not a sharer.
Never had to worry about that in Canada! 😊
I know you guys already probably have you go-to turkey recipe, but I thought you might need some healthy Thanksgiving side dishes to round out your meal so, I’m putting together a little list of some of my favorites that you can make too!
Healthy Thanksgiving Staples
There are a few things that you will need to have on hand to make a low of these side dishes to add to your healthy Thanksgiving dinner:
- Sweet potatoes
- Olive oil
- Butternut Squash
- Brussels Sprouts
- Green beans
Of course, you will need more ingredient than that to make your healthy side dishes for turkey, but these are a few items that you will find in a lot of the recipes!
My Food Philosophy
So, I want to take a second to chat about what I believe about food during the holidays (and really all the time) food should be about memories. Not macros.
I truly believe that the stress about stressing over what to eat and if it’s “healthy” is UNHEALTHIER than just eating the food itself. I also believe that food is meant to be enjoyed and for pleasure and sometimes it’s a-okay to just go out and eat something not so nourishing because it feeds your soul.

All that to say, I will be eating all the “normal” versions of these side dishes at my own Thanksgiving because I actually don’t cook for Thanksgiving and I am all about eating what people serve me. If I was bringing something, it would be one of these recipes, but it would still not prevent me from enjoying what I want of the real deal 😊
