PIN Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Let’s talk crunch.
Because these orange colored little gems have SO MUCH crunch it’s almost insane. Liiiike, you might even think you’re eating a restaurant-deep-fried-fry but – WHOA NOW, HOLD ON- you made them yourself in the oven, WITHOUT deep frying.

Seriously. Don’t be warned if you try to make sweet potato fries for every meal. I can already see you mixing sweet potato hash browns for tomorrow’s breakfast and making fries instead.

Cornstarch: The Secret Ingredient to Crispy Fries
I’ve never met someone who doesn’t love them some fries! Crispy and crunchy, hot and salt, they’re the absolute BEST, but you know what isn’t? Droopy, soggy fries! The secret to giving them that crispiness you’re craving is easy- cornstarch! It crisps up while cooking to make an amazingly crispy crunchy coating on the outside of these crispy sweet potato fries! You’re going to LOVE!
How to make Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries in the oven
Preheat
Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to fully preheat.
Chop
Carefully peel your sweet potato and cut it into evenly sized ¼ inch thick strips. Place them in a bowl along with the cornstarch and toss until they are all well coated.
Toss
Next, add the oil and toss until it evenly coats the sweet potato strips. Next, add the seasoning salt and a pinch of regular sea salt and toss once again!
Spread
Place the sweet potatoes on an ungreased baking sheet and spread them out evenly, leaving room in between each fry!
Bake
Pop the pan in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Take them out, flip them, and then bake an additional 15-20 minutes or until the fries are golden and crunchy. Be aware that they do firm up quite a bit once they have cooled off a bit.
Enjoy
Let the fries cool for a few minutes, then DEVOUR!
How to avoid burning Sweet Potato Fries in the Oven
If you’re concerned you might burn your fries, there’s a sure fire way to avoid that from happening! When cutting your sweet potato into strips, simply ensure that each strip is the same size. That way, all your fries will cook evenly and have that perfect crisp!

These look great! I love the tip of soaking them. I never thought to do that, although I do coat mine in corn starch. I am going to have to try soaking them first. My two year old LOVES sweet potato fries, and he loves dipping them in ketchup, although I think I would like your avocado cilantro dip a lot better than boring old ketchup.
Taylor Kiser says
The soaking helps so much, I was surprised!!
Your two year old has amazing taste if he likes the avocado dip over ketchup! I am impressed! Thanks Katherine 🙂
