This cold and creamy Eggnog Shake is the perfect taste of the holidays.

An eggnog shake in a glass, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Deliciously festive, eggnog is typically made during the winter holiday season, and over time, it became associated specifically with Christmas. It is a rumored descendant of a medieval British drink called posset, a milk and ale concoction that people would add egg to in order to enhance the creaminess and flavor of the drink.

Eggnog, as we now know it, is a ubiquitous and classic holiday treat that so many love to indulge in. With just a little effort, this eggnog shake is a surprisingly easy take on the classic drink, and it whips up in a matter of minutes. All you need is a blender!

Eggnog Shake

Is This Eggnog Shake Healthy?

This recipe is not a particularly healthy one. However, if you opt for a vegan vanilla ice cream — maybe one with an almond or oat milk base — and swap out your heavy whipped cream for a low-fat option, you may be able to inch more toward “healthier” territory. Keep the spices, though; they make this shake and add nothing to the calorie count.

What Brand Of Ice Cream To Use

The most important ingredient in this shake is the ice cream. While the recipe calls for vanilla ice cream, that still leaves you with an abundance of options to choose from. Hands down, a personal bestseller for my home is Straus Family Creamery. It’s organic and crafted with simple and pure ingredients that are minimally processed. If you have never tried this ice cream, I bet you have seen the brand’s milk products at your local grocery store. A few other brands I really enjoy are Van Leeuwen (they have great vegan flavors), Ben & Jerry’s, and, last but certainly not least, Jeni’s. All of these brands, for the most part, are free of preservatives, fillers, artificial ingredients, and coloring agents. You can truly taste the difference.

How to Make Ahead and Store

Store your leftover shake in the freezer for up to 2 months and enjoy at a later date by blending again after thawing. If you wish to make this shake in advance, I recommend you blend and pour your mixture into popsicle molds. When you are ready to blend them up again, all you have to do is pop them out.

Serving Suggestions

This eggnog shake is great paired with fresh-baked shortbread cookies, a slice of pumpkin bread, or pumpkin-flavored anything, really. I personally feel this is a filling enough dessert, but in case you’d like more options to pair it with, I wouldn’t turn down a slice of Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free Carrot Cake, some Greek Yogurt Brownies, or a slice of Paleo Pumpkin Bread With Coconut Flour.
