This Chocolate Malt might be the greatest milkshake you’ve ever had.

Who among us can resist an offer of a chocolate malted milkshake? For those of a certain age, the nostalgia factor alone makes it impossible to say no if offered one.

For the rest of us, the taste alone is too much to resist. Fortunately, you don’t have to get a time machine and go back to a 1950s diner to get a great chocolate malt. With a blender and a few ingredients, you can make one at home that might actually be the best milkshake you’ve ever had!

The malt gives the shake nutty and caramel overtones that help to create a richer taste. The aroma and flavor of the malt powder blends better with chocolate than any other type of milkshake, and this is why a chocolate malt might be the best milkshake ever invented!

If you’re craving a chocolate shake but you don’t have malt, I would suggest making either a peanut butter chocolate protein shake or an Oreo milkshake instead. And, if you can’t have milk, don’t forget that it’s possible to make a vegan milkshake.

Chocolate Malt

Focus on Quality

The key to a great chocolate malt is to use quality ingredients. If you use high-quality ice cream, chocolate syrup, and malt, you’ll get the best results.

I would also recommend adding the ice cream last. That means blending the milk, syrup, and malt together first. Then you can add the ice cream a little at a time until you find the desired thickness. More ice cream means a thicker milkshake. If you know ahead of time that you want a thicker shake, you can reduce the amount of milk you use, or just add more ice cream.

How to make ahead and store

A chocolate malt is always best consumed right away. But if there are leftovers, place them in a sealed jar that’s left in the fridge. Just try to drink the rest of the shake within a day, and give it a good shake in case it separates while being stored.

Serving Suggestions

If a chocolate malt isn’t enough, you can always pair it with a healthier dessert. For example, a chocolate malt would pair nicely with some Healthy Greek Yogurt Brownies or perhaps some Healthy Peanut Butter Balls to create a chocolate and peanut butter pairing. If you would prefer having cookies with your shake, I suggest some Funfetti Protein Cookies or these Keto Snickerdoodles.
