A luscious, low-sugar treat that conquers chocolate cravings in a keto-friendly fashion!

Rich chocolate mousse topped with a chocolate square and cocoa powder, served in a glass with a spoon, ideal for healthy dessert recipes from Food Faith Fitness.

Do you think all desserts have to be loaded with sugar? Think again. This keto chocolate mousse only has 4 grams of sugar per serving and a whole lot of “YUM!”

Crafted with dark chocolate, butter, cream, cocoa powder, and keto sweetener, this mouthwatering mousse is as easy to whip up as it is to eat. It comes together in four simple steps and 15 minutes, and after the 2-hour chilling time, you’ll have a decadent dessert that gets better with each spoonful.

Seriously, your tongue might do a double-take on this one… It’s so velvety smooth and rich, you can hardly tell that it’s any different from traditional chocolate mousse. Serve it plain, or top it with extra chocolate and a dab of whipped cream. Personally, I enjoy mine topped with Chocolate-Covered Raspberries, but this would diverge from the keto standards. For keto-friendly toppings, try unsweetened coconut flakes, bittersweet chocolate, or cacao nibs. However you serve this dessert, have fun with it, and find the perfect match for your mousse!

Is Keto Chocolate Mousse Healthy?

Nowadays, many people consider the keto diet to be healthy because it’s low-sugar and low-carb. However, as you can see by the butter and cream in this recipe, keto recipes are also high in fats, so keep that in mind when selecting a recipe that works best for you. Overall, this recipe is still a dessert, so it’s meant to be savored once in a while for special occasions.

The Keto Diet & Why It Exists

In 1921, the ketogenic diet was developed by Dr. Russell Wilder of the Mayo Clinic, who used it to treat epilepsy. It omits high-carb and sugary foods like bread, pasta, and cake, so that the body stops using carbohydrates and sugar as fuel, and instead breaks down fat to produce ketones for fuel.

Some people (myself included) like to dabble in keto recipes like this one simply to cut back on sugar in general, not necessarily to follow a strict keto diet. The fact that we have that freedom today is a testament to how far culinary culture has come. We can get healthier while exploring new forms of creative culinary expression!

How to make ahead and store

Cover your keto chocolate mousse with plastic wrap or seal in an airtight jar and refrigerate for 3-4 days. You can also freeze it in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months, but make sure to thaw it in the fridge overnight before serving. When you’re ready to dig in, stir the mousse thoroughly to freshen and fluff it up.

Serving Suggestions

Boost your keto chocolate mousse with a nutrient-dense topping, like toasted walnuts, pecans, almonds, or pumpkin seeds. You could also swirl in a tablespoon or two of Cashew Butter or Pistachio Butter. Just make sure not to add any sweetener to your homemade nut butter, and it’s keto-approved.

For a full ketogenic meal, indulge in this mousse for dessert after a Keto Pizza Bowl, Keto Cucumber Salad, or Keto Stuffed Peppers. Your dining table will shine bright with this low-carb feast!
