PIN Best Non Dairy Milk: Taste Tested
And we’re back with the second review here on FFF! And, just like the best dairy free yogurt taste test, Mr. FFF is back with me to help me find the best milk alternatives!
As you all know, Mr. FFF is dairy free. I am not, but it’s just so much easier to not have to buy a whole bunch of different bottles of milk, so I drink it as well. Plus, I naturally just like dairy free milk better! Of course, I do not think that you have to avoid dairy at all if it does not bother you. If you enjoy it and it makes you feel good then go ahead and drink it up!
Many people are dairy free, or prefer the taste of milk alternatives and there are SO many options on the market, which is what brought on this dairy free milk taste test! We wanted to taste a bunch of different brands and types so that you could determine what option would be the best for you! We tried some nut milks, grain milks and even a milk made of peas, so there will be something for everyone!
Dairy Free Milk Taste Test Run Down
Just like the protein bars review, all of the non-dairy milks that we tried were the same flavor: original and unsweetened. This helps keep a level playing field, so we are able to accurately compare all the milks taste and texture. There were very few milks we didn’t like, but some definitely stood out from the crowd.
How We Graded The Best Non Dairy Milk Taste Test
We graded these “milks” on two things – taste and texture – and on a 1-5 scale. We were mostly looking for something that tasted “plain” like dairy milk, so that it would be very versatile. We also wanted one that was super creamy like dairy milk, so that is where texture comes into play.
Now, let’s find out the best non dairy milks!
Rice Dream Rice Milk
TASTE Taylor 4/5 Mr. FFF 4/5
TEXTURE Taylor 4/5 Mr. FFF 4/5
Notes: Rice milk tastes a lot like dairy-milk, in the way that it is just nice and plain – even I thought so. It does have a slight rice taste, but would really only be noticeable if drinking it straight from the glass, I think I may think this was milk if I was putting it in cereal or something like that.
Ripple Foods Pea milk
TASTE Taylor: 3/5 Mr. FFF 2/5
TEXTURE Taylor: 3/5 Mr. FFF 3/5
Notes: While we both loved that pea milk was a high protein non dairy milk, we both did not like the planty taste. You can definitely tell that this is made of peas. It did have a good creaminess, but it was accompanied by a graininess which we think is coming from the protein in it.
Pacific Foods Coconut Milk
TASTE Taylor: 4/5 Mr. FFF 4/5
TEXTURE Taylor 5/5 Mr. FFF 4/5
Notes: At first glance, this looks like milk as it’s super white and looks thick and creamy. It is VERY cream (one of the creamiest of the bunch!) thanks to the coconut cream and its higher fat content. However, it definitely had a VERY strong coconut flavor. This is not necessarily a bad thing but, if you’re wanting to be plain like milk, this might not be for you. If you love coconut, you’ll love this. (Or if you love bananas, according to Mr. FFF)
So Delicious Cashew Milk
TASTE Taylor: 4.5/5 Mr. FFF 4/5
TEXTURE Taylor 5/5 Mr. FFF 5/5
This nut milk doesn’t taste like cashews, but it doesn’t NOT taste like cashews. It’s got a definite nutty flavor, but the kind of nut used isn’t super distinguishable. It’s a little creamier than almond milk, probably about the same as coconut milk – very creamy and delicious!
Almond Breeze Almond Milk
TASTE Taylor: 4.5/5 Mr. FFF : 4.5/5
TEXTURE: Taylor: 4.5/5 Mr. FFF: 4/5
This is probably the most widely used non dairy milk right now. It’s creamy, but not as creamy as coconut or cashew milk. But, it had a very plain taste (in a good way!) – not nutty like cashew milk – so it would work well in a lot things!
Silk Oat Milk
TASTE Taylor: 5/5 Mr. FFF 5/5
TEXTURE Taylor: 5/5 Mr. FFF 5/5
This is the trendiest non dairy beverage out there right now and for good reason – we loved this one and it was our favorite. It’s super creamy and has a nice natural sweetness, with this underlying oat flavor that is honestly so good. It’s also really plain so it’s a great milk replacement. The creaminess is comparable to cashew milk and coconut milk. The only downside is that it’s quite high in carbs. I personally don’t care about that at all, but some people might!

Well, the other downside to Oat Milk is that you would only need to get organic since glyphosate has been found in a lot of oats! Using it to make milk would make that an even higher concentration – not a good idea!

Thanks for your input Toni!

Thanks for the taste test! It would be helpful if the nutrient content was included with the review results for each one above as they are in the video.

What about soy milk? It’s not as creamy as cashew and coconut milk but great for coffees and hot chocolates.
Taylor Kiser says
Soy bugs my husbands stomach so it wasn’t included! If you love it though, stick to it!

P.S. Searched for this and so glad I found it! Really want to try to remove dairy but hard to find something to replace how amazing Fairlife’s milk is and now going to try oat milk…! 🙂
Taylor Kiser says

Could you taste test non dairy creamers or coffee creamers? I agree about every “healthy option” I have tried. Ugh. End up a waste of money.
