Creamy, dreamy, and dairy-free!

Avocado dressing in a glass jar, surrounded by fresh lemons and whole and halved avocados.

Looking for a dreamy vegan dressing that you can drench your salad with? This recipe is an easy one-way ticket to fulfilling that dream. I put this dressing on nearly everything—from salads and sandwiches to tacos—and it also makes a great dip for corn chips or French fries. You’ll be amazed at the versatility of this simple, sweet recipe. Aside from guacamole, it’s the best way to turn super ripe avocados into something special. Even the biggest ‘cado critics can find this satisfying, as it’s a fresh and wholesome alternative to heavy sauces like ranch dressing or mayonnaise.

As a simplified Green Goddess Dressing, this creamy goodness creates an easy flavor and texture that kids can enjoy. It definitely has the potential to become a kitchen favorite, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself making it again and again, for all kinds of dishes and occasions.

Is Avocado Dressing Healthy?

As you can imagine, this is one of the healthiest dressings out there. There’s no dairy, gluten, added sugar, or preservatives. They say, “homemade is heart-made,” and this dressing is a great testament to that, while also being suitable for most dietary needs.

As a balanced combo of healthy fats from avocado and olive oil with vitamin C from lemon juice, it’s not only highly nutritious—but very delicious. Velvety smooth, herbaceous, and with a hint of tang, avocado dressing is the perfect introduction to this creamy green fruit.

Wait… Avocado is a Fruit?

You might have already heard of this by now, but yes—avocado is indeed a fruit. While it’s usually served in savory or spicy dishes alongside other veggies, its botanical classification places it in the fruit category.

Perhaps that’s why it’s so versatile—you can even make an Avocado Smoothie, which is especially refreshing on hot summer days.

How to make ahead and store

If you store this dressing, do so in a well-sealed mason jar or guacamole container, making sure to cover the surface with a layer of plastic wrap to stop the avocado from browning. This way, it will last in the fridge for up to a week. Generally, the acid from the lemon juice helps slow down the browning process, but I always recommend investing in a guac container that double-seals so it stays as fresh as possible. While the dressing is best served fresh after it’s made, it’s so good that you’ll probably want to make an extra batch to store and use throughout the week. Meal-prep to the max!

Serving Suggestions

While the possibilities for this dressing are nearly endless, I’ve gathered my personal favorites for you to try…

First, as you know, any salad you make is the perfect base for this topping. Even a Sweet Potato Salad could use a drizzle of green creamy goodness!

Since it’s both cooling and smooth, it also makes a great sauce for Spicy Chili or Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos.

Play around with it and have fun—salads, sandwiches, and soups… there’s really no limit to what this dressing can do!
