A new way of cooking an old classic with delicious results.

Spam is probably one of the most unique and sometimes polarizing foods in the world. I suspect a lot of people aren’t even sure what to make of it. It was a useful way to feed soldiers during World War II and continues to be a big part of Hawaiian cuisine to this day. Yet, it’s impossible to ignore how some people look down on Spam. Perhaps they just haven’t given it a chance, or perhaps they’re not preparing it the right way.
For both Spam lovers and Spam skeptics, I recommend trying this recipe for Spam in an air fryer. Just about any meal prepared in an air fryer is going to be fast, easy, and healthier. All of those things are true about Spam in an air fryer. Spam cooked in an air fryer can be a tasty part of a meal, too. With a simple marinade of soy sauce and brown sugar, the Spam comes out a little salty and a little savory—not to mention crispy, too. That’s why I think this is a great way to enjoy Spam, or perhaps get acquainted with it.
Is Spam in Air Fryer Healthy?
Preparing Spam in an air fryer is probably one of the healthiest ways to cook it. Using an air fryer means cutting back on all the excess grease and oil that comes with deep-fried foods. However, the high fat content of Spam will be an issue for people trying to reduce their fat intake. Plus, Spam is nutritionally deficient and high in sodium, so while this is a healthier way to prepare Spam, it’s a dish that should be enjoyed in moderation.

Mix and Match the Seasonings
The recipe for Spam in the air fryer calls for brown sugar and soy sauce, but it’s okay to get creative with your seasonings. For some people, salt and pepper will be enough to keep things simple. Meanwhile, others may have a favorite marinade that will work nicely with Spam, too. I would recommend experimenting to find the seasonings and spices that best complement Spam to your taste. Just make sure the Spam is evenly coated with the marinade and that the air fryer isn’t overcrowded to ensure it cooks evenly.

How to make ahead and store
Spam that has been cooked in the air fryer can be cooled and stored in airtight containers. In the fridge, the Spam will stay well for 2 or 3 days. It can easily be reheated in the air fryer.

Serving Suggestions
Spam can go well with a variety of side dishes. One of my favorite sides to have with Spam is Sweet Potato Fries, which can also be prepared in an air fryer. You could keep things simple by serving Spam on a bed of rice. With Spam, I suggest making Instant Pot Coconut Rice or Cilantro-Lime Cauliflower Rice. Don’t forget that Spam can also be a breakfast dish. In that case, I recommend pairing it with Crispy Hash Browns or Scrambled Eggs.
