This tart and versatile Lime Curd looks impressive but only takes 20 minutes!

This recipe is so fun to make that you’re in danger of ending up with jars upon jars of lime curd. But hey, a Mason jar of lime curd tied with a ribbon makes for a perfect homemade gift!

If you have ambitions of becoming a star baker, it’s crucial to master the art of the curd. While you’re whisking this delicious condiment, you might even feel like you’re a pastry chef in the kitchen of a charming Paris bistro.

Fruit curd (including lime, lemon, orange, and grapefruit) is very popular in England. The Brits love to spread curd on scones and crumpets. Fruit curd makes an appearance at afternoon tea along with jam, and you can use them the same way. Why not throw a classy tea party for your friends to debut your homemade lime curd?

Is Lime Curd Healthy?

Considering that two of the main ingredients are sugar and butter, this rich lime curd isn’t very healthy. However, it’s a great way to add a little excitement when you toast up your favorite healthy bread for breakfast or a snack. Look for bread made with whole wheat or whole grains rather than white bread. But I have two pieces of good news: first, limes are high in vitamin C. Second, this lime curd is gluten-free, making it a perfect little treat for anyone with celiac disease!

What Is The Best Way To Zest A Lime?

The best way to zest any kind of citrus fruit is to use a zester. The brand Microplane is beloved by home cooks and chefs alike, and zesters are available in multiple varieties, including models that have a pocket to catch the zest as you go. If you don’t have a zester, it’s possible to use the small holes on a box grater instead. But trust me, if you’re going to be zesting even once a month, it’s worth it to buy a zester. You can pick one up for under $10.

Ingredients for lime curd: limes, lime zest, lime juice, granulated sugar, eggs, egg yolk, butter, and a whisk.

How to make ahead and store

You can make this recipe ahead of your meal or gathering, let it cool, and store it in the fridge in an airtight container. It will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Serving Suggestions

As noted above, a perfect use for lime curd is to spread it on toast. For another unique breakfast idea, try topping a bowl of Almond Milk Yogurt with lime curd. In the realm of dessert, you could spoon it over a Pavlova for a burst of citrus and a pop of vivid color. You can also spread it between the layers of a cake, like this Key Lime Cake. Or you can even unite the lime curd with its citrus sister, lemon, by adding it between the layers of a Vegan Lemon Cake.
