You guys know I am a big sangria person and you can usually find me sipping on tropical white moscato sangria in the Summer. But, sometimes I switch it up with a coconut blueberry mojito recipe.
While I was sipping on a mojito, it got me thinking: could I make the usual simple syrup with honey to nix a little but of the refined sugar?
And, my internet friends? YES YOU CAN.

A Healthy Version of Simple Syrup!
Simple syrup is something that is a MUST HAVE this time of year when the nice weather rolls in and you’re wanting to mix up some drinks for your family and friends! But all the refined sugar in the usual simple syrups? NOT my favorite. I mean, sometimes you just have to go for it and enjoy the full sugar experience, but other times you can still get all the sweetness you need with a homemade honey syrup! That’s right, today I’m going to show you a recipe that you can sub in for store-bought simple syrup that will still make delicious cocktails!
Honey Simple Syrup Ingredients
I can almost taste all the amazing drinks I’ve been dreaming up all winter, can you!? Now that you’re all hyped up about this new syrup recipe, it’s time to pull together the ingredients we’ll need to make it a reality! There are only 2 ingredients that you need when making simple syrup with honey: honey and water! Easy peasy!

How to make Honey Simple Syrup Recipe
So if the list of ingredients wasn’t simple enough, you’re going to be blown away by how easy it is to make this syrup! Goodbye store bought, hello homemade!
Boil
Combine water and honey in a small pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Simmer
Once the mixture reaches a full rolling boil, reduce the heat to low and allow it to simmer until it has thickened. This should take approximately 10-12 minutes.
Store
Let the syrup cool and then transfer it to an airtight container until ready to use! Mix it into drinks and enjoy!!
How to use this Simple Syrup
Get creative and get mixing those tasty drinks! There are endless drink options to make when you have a delicious simple syrup on hand! A few drinks that I recommend are:

And what is a party without a good selection of drinks!? Recipes for mixed drinks can be so delicious and refreshing but can be VERY high in processed sugars. If you’re looking to cut back on regular sugar and use a natural sweetener instead, this simple syrup is your ticket! You can totally sub this syrup in for regular simple syrup, however it will have a honey taste to it!
Once you’ve cooked and cooled your simple syrup, it’s ready to be put to good use! Hello cocktails, mojitos and martinis! In an airtight container, you can store your simple syrup made with honey for up to a month in your fridge!
In short, YES it is! Honey is a fantastic natural sweetener that is not refined and can be used in drinks, both hot and cold, in cooking and baking, and wherever else you need a little sweetness added! Honey is also rich in antioxidants, keeping your body strong and healthy.

Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 1/2 Cup Water
Instructions
