PIN Healthy Protein Powder Cookie Dough
It’s my birthday and I’ll eat cookie dough if I wannnnaaaaaaa.
Just kidding. It’s not MY birthday. It’s FFF’s 5th Birthday!
And it’s not today. It’s tomorrow. Buuuut, we don’t hang out on the weekends, so we’re gonna celebrate today, ya dig?
I figured if I lured you in with a healthy cookie dough recipe you would see it my way.
I’m gonna let you in on a little slice of my real-food-blogger-life for a sec:
After a LONG day of testing fancy recipes and making said recipes look EXTRA fancy and supppppper yummy and pretty, I usually don’t actually FEEL like eating fancy “grown up” food like a bowl of vegan coconut curry with sweet potato noodles or low carb whole30 paleo salmon cakes, or something like that.
I meannnnnn, I’m not over here wasting food or anything, so we DO eat whatever I made that day for dinner but, if I have an “off day” my food habits look something like this:
- Breakfast: Easy Cinnamon Roll Gluten Free Low Carb Keto Protein Pancakes
- Snack: Nut butter on crackers (lately it’s been this crazy amazing cookie dough almond butter recipe)
- Lunch: Ham, cheese, pickle and mustard sandwich. WHICH IS THE BEST SANDWICH EVER.
You know I’m not wrong.
- Dinner: PB & J toast with some random protein source that I find lurking in the back of the fridge.
- Bedtime snack: THIS healthy protein powder cookie dough.
So, basically, my inner soul longs to eat like a 5 year old. NOT MAD ABOUT IT.
Since you know I’m O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D with cookie dough (it literally says it beside my face on the right side of the screen) I figured this would be the most OPTIMAL time to share this EASY to the MAX protein cookie dough recipe with you, in honor of FFF turning FIVE TOMORROW. <— Especially since Mr. FFF and I both agreed that it kinda tastes like a mix between chocolate chip cookie dough and birthday cake flavored cookie dough. YESSSSSSSSSS.
I cannot even believe I have making food and nattering about who-knows-what at you guys for 5 years and that you STILL COME BACK.
SRSLY love you.
Almost as much as I love this SUPAH high protein cookie dough. <– KIDDING. I love you more.
Maybe.
Anyway. This cookie dough is made of 5-6 ingredients (depending what you have on hand) and comes together in only 5 MINUTES. Plus, you get the snacking satisfaction of eating the WHOLE bowl of it.
Plus, we’re answering the age old question of how to use protein powder so it’s also packing a WHOLLOP of 20g of protein (!!!!) depending on what protein powder you use.
Don’t be alarmed or anything, but I can see your muscles GROWING through the SCREEN. RIGHT NOW.

What kind of protein powder do you use to make healthy protein powder cookie dough?
You can use a whey protein OR plant-based protein! Just keep in mind the plant-based proteins are much less absorbent, so you may need less applesauce, and to skip the almond milk. Go by FEEEEEL.
Don’t lie. You know EXACTLY what raw cookie dough should feel like.
I personally think you should RESIST the EXTRME urge to eat this RIGHT AWAY and let this cookie dough chill for at least 5 minutes in the fridge, before you shovel it into your cookie-monster face.
It reallllly gives it that AUTHENTIC chocolate chip cookie dough “believability” if you know what I mean.
However, you will not be judged if you do not wait. I 100% understand YOU.
Now friends, thank you for sticking around for 5 years. Here’s to 5 more magical years of nattering, eating and being the best interwebz-friends we could be!
Go forth into the weekend with a bowl of healthy cookie dough in hand.

Can I use regular butter in place of butter extract? Or something else?
Taylor Kiser says
I don’t think regular butter would work. You can try omitting it, but you won’t get the same buttery flavor!
ANQUETIL says
Do you think that we can shape the dough into cookies and then bake it in the oven?
Thank you 🙂
Taylor Kiser says
Nope! That won’t work. Sorry!
Suzanne says
This looks so good! Does the protein powder taste come through much?
Taylor Kiser says
I don’t think so but it will depend on your protein powder!
Vanessa says
Thanks for sharing! Do they keep long?
Taylor Kiser says
This should be eaten as soon as it’s made!
Lisa says
This recipe claims to be dairy free and vegan but the protein powder used was whey. Does this work with vegan protein powdered as well?
Taylor Kiser says
Yes, it says use the protein powder of your choice.
Derek says
Dont care for the life story above the recipe.
I used besan (chickpea) flour and brownie protein powder because its what I have and this was amazing! I wish I had butter extract because that sounds perfect.
Ill make this every day and name my firstborn after the author. Gonna be kinda awkward if it is a boy, but whateves.
Taylor Kiser says
I think Taylor works for a boy or girl 🙂 Glad you like it!
Kk says
Would almond flour work instead of coconut? Thanks!
Taylor Kiser says
No, they are very different – sorry! You would totally have to change the ratios and I haven’t tested it with almond flour so I couldn’t advise you.
Heather Butler says
Do you think there is something we could substitute for the apple sauce? Maybe additional almond milk or greek yogurt?
Taylor Kiser says
You can try, but it won’t have the same texture and you will need to use a different measurement!
D'Anna Hebert says
I made this my own a little. I used 1/4 tbsp of melted butter, and added in vanilla extract. I also only did 2 tbsp of apple sauce and I have to do about 4tbsp of coconut flour in addition to my protein powder to get it the the right consistency, but god it was so worth it. This was absolutely delicious and gave me all the cookie dough vibes I need to get through a rough day. #nonguiltypleasure
Cate says
This recipe blew me away! I made half a serving of this to mix with half a serving of protein shake “ice cream” for a late night dinner/dessert last night. I definitely agree with the need to experiment depending on protein powder, and coconut flour is more often than not really hard to work with in my experience. When I followed the directions as is it was really crumbly and not at all doughy, but I added a little more milk (I used soymilk) and applesauce and eventually got a perfect cookie dough! It was sooo good.
Taylor Kiser says
Yay!!! So glad you liked it! It definitely needs tweaking based on your protein, so I am glad you got it to work!
Leanne says
Mine just tasted like applesauce and was soupy. What would you recommend ?
Taylor Kiser says
I’m sorry to hear that Leanne. It sounds like it’s an issue with your protein powder! All protein powders react slightly different so it will take trial and error – you may need a bit more protein, a bit more coconut flour, or just reduce the liquid!
As for protein powder, I switch between Muscle Milk vanilla and Body Nutrition vanilla! here is the muscle milk: https://amzn.to/2NWrd8M And here is the body nutrition: https://amzn.to/2P4ak8w
You can read D’Anna Hebert’s comment a little bit above yours and maybe try her adjustments.
Hope these suggestions work for you! Keep me posted!
