Smoky, creamy, and drizzled with a sweet and tangy sauce, this dish is easy to make and even easier to devour!

My obsession with avocados runs pretty deep. Whether it’s guacamole, avocado toast, or diced avocado in my salad or rice bowl, I’m fairly certain there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t have avocado in some form or another. And when they’re out of stock at my usual grocery store, you better believe I’ll be driving to multiple different stores until I find them. In short, I simply cannot be without my avocados.
As much as I consume them, grilled avocados are somewhat new to me. I first tried them at a restaurant a few years back and was surprised by how much grilling changes their flavor. As soon as the creamy halves of green goodness are kissed with the fiery heat of the grill, they are infused with a wonderful smokiness. Not to mention, the charred grill marks provide a tasty textural contrast to the soft, velvety flesh. This recipe levels up the smoky flavor with a tangy feta-tahini sauce that is deliciously drizzled over top.
It’s an incredibly savory and satisfying dish that looks fancy when plated. But really, it’s a simple recipe that you can make in just 10 minutes. It’s the perfect side dish for a summer dinner party but also makes for a tasty option if you’re just looking for an easy-breezy side for a busy weeknight dinner.

Tips for grilling avocados
Success starts with picking out the right avocados. Be sure to select ones that are ripe but still somewhat firm, as mushier avocados will not hold up to the high heat of the grill. Speaking of heat, also make sure your grill (or grill pan) is preheated to medium-high heat before grilling your avocados. Cut each avocado in half, carefully remove the pit, but leave the skin on—it’ll act as a “cup” while you’re eating the avocado. To prevent sticking, it’s essential to coat the cut sides of the avocado with olive oil, and the addition of lemon juice will help to prevent browning. Once you place your avocados face down on the grill, don’t move them for five to six minutes—this will ensure you end up with those tasty grill marks. If you’d like, you can rotate the avocados 90 degrees and grill for another minute or two to get cross-grill marks.

How do I store leftovers?
This dish is definitely best enjoyed straight off the grill, but you can store any leftovers once they’ve cooled completely. Wrap the avocados tightly in plastic wrap to prevent oxidation, and then store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. It’s best to store the sauce in a separate airtight container. Reheat the avocados in a 350°F oven or air fryer for 3-4 minutes until warmed through, and warm up the sauce in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Serving suggestions
Since this is a grilled dish, it’d naturally pair well with lots of different grilled meats and veggies. I recommend serving it with this Juicy Grilled Chicken Breast Recipe or Grilled Tilapia, along with some Grilled Potato Wedges and Grilled Corn on the Cob. Add a Cucumber-Mint Salad for a refreshing start to the meal. These avocados would also make for a great breakfast or brunch item, especially when paired with Air-Fryer Fried Eggs.

Ingredients
- 3 large ripe avocados
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- Salt to taste
For The Sauce:
- 1/4 cup feta cheese crumbled
- 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
- 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 to 1 tablespoon reduced-sodium chicken broth depending on desired thickness
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. Peel the garlic clove, and cut the top off. Rub the cut part of the garlic all over the cut sides of the avocados.

- Mix the olive oil and lemon juice in a small bowl, and brush over the avocados. Sprinkle with salt.

- Place the cut side of the avocados down on the grill, and cook until grill marks form, about 5-6 minutes.
- Place the feta cheese into a small microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until it begins to warm and soften, about 10-15 seconds. Transfer it to a small food processor and blend it with the remaining sauce ingredients. You'll need to stop and scrape down the sides while blending to make sure everything gets smooth and creamy. Season to taste with salt.
- Drizzle the sauce evenly across the grilled avocados, squeeze fresh lemon juice over top (optional), and enjoy eating them right out of the shell!
