Gone are the days of store-bought crackers now that we have these crispy, sweet, and savory gluten-free, vegan crackers.

If you choose to maintain a gluten-free diet or have celiac disease, cooking at home is ideal so you know exactly what is going into your food. Skip the cracker aisle and whip up a batch of these gluten-free (and vegan!) crackers.
Back in the 1920s, Anton Schär took an interest in the benefits of eliminating wheat from children’s diets. Smash cut to the aughts: between 2004 and 2011, the gluten-free product market grew at a yearly rate of 28%. That’s certainly when I first became aware of it and started seeing GF options everywhere, from restaurants to Trader Joe’s.
These crackers are simple, crispy, and like a blank canvas for whatever you are in the mood for. I originally made these for my bestie’s birthday party for a couple of gluten-free guests to dip in my homemade hummus. Well, they went fast, because everyone, not just the GF guests, was reaching for them to pile on cheddar or honey ricotta or just eat them plain. Now I double the recipe for parties.
Are These Gluten-Free Crackers Healthy?
These gluten-free crackers are made with a few simple ingredients and have protein and fiber. Obviously, they are gluten-free and also vegan-friendly if you use agave instead of honey. They are pretty plain (in a good way!) and have a bit of sweetness and saltiness, which make them a perfect vehicle for anything you can think of.

Choose Your Blend
Almond flour, oat flour, arrowroot, tapioca… there are many gluten-free flour options available. This recipe calls for a blend of any of the many varieties. Some brands I love are Bob’s Red Mill, Namaste, and King Arthur. Be sure to check the ingredients, especially if you are making this vegan, as some include milk powder. Also, the amount of water needed will vary depending on the flour you use in this recipe.

How Do I Store Leftovers?
These crackers will stay good for about 1 week in an airtight container at room temperature.

Serving Suggestions
Serve gluten-free crackers with a tasty dip, like hummus or Healthy Spinach Dip (the latter can be served hot or cold). Or, try something lighter and more refreshing, like this amazing guacamole.
For a sweeter take, wow your friends with this trendy Peanut Butter Board and Coconut Milk Quinoa Fruit Salad next to a bowl of your crispy gluten-free crackers.
Finally, nothing goes better with the crispy saltiness of crackers than soup on a cold day. Try this healthy, warming Lentil Soup or my fave indulgence, Broccoli Cheddar Soup.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter spread melted
- 1/2 teaspoon honey or agave nectar
- 1 cup gluten-free flour blend
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup water as needed
- Extra sea salt or seasoned salt for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, vegan butter spread, and honey or agave nectar. Stir in gluten-free flour blend and sea salt. Add 1/4 cup of water to start, mixing to form a dough.

- If the dough is too dry, add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it forms a cohesive ball. Be cautious not to add too much water.
- Sandwich the dough between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Roll out to approximately 1/8-inch thick, ensuring evenness to prevent uneven baking.

- Peel away the top parchment layer. Transfer the bottom layer with the dough onto a baking sheet. Score the dough into 1½-inch squares with a sharp knife, but do not separate them.

- Dampen the dough lightly with water, smoothing it with your fingers. Sprinkle with sea salt or seasoned salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until crisp, rotating the baking sheet halfway through. Watch closely to avoid overbaking.
- Allow the crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking them apart.
