Need energy? Then snack on these Energy Power Balls made with oats, peanut butter, honey, hemp seeds, and dark chocolate.

I get it. Life happens. It just sucks when life happens when you’re particularly hungry and/or run down. That’s why I decided to whip up a batch of these energy power balls.

I’m not a huge fan of turning to an energy drink when I’m feeling a bit powered down. Instead, these energy balls are made from healthy, all-natural ingredients and are the perfect way to get that bounce back in your step when you haven’t had a chance to cook something substantial. They are batch-worthy in that you should really make a bunch of them up so that you always have some on hand—not only for yourself but also for your kids (though, if your kids are anything like mine, they have energy in abundance).

Whether as a snack or a quick meal replacement, these energy balls have you covered. Stock your freezer with them and grab them as needed throughout the week.

It’s all about flavor balance

Even though these energy balls are super easy to make—you just throw everything in the food processor and blitz—flavor balance is still key. You want to be thoughtful about what goes into them so they taste good enough that you actually look forward to eating them. (Otherwise, the temptation to just grab the energy drink may win.)

Oats offer a nice neutral backdrop to rich peanut butter, earthy hemp seeds, and warm cinnamon. There’s also dark chocolate in the mix, which adds more richness, a touch of decadence, and a little sweetness, too. The honey helps pull it all together.

Finally, that pinch of salt is key. Just like with baked goods, a small pinch of salt helps amplify all of the other ingredients and bring out their best qualities. Without it, the combination will taste flat. So, don’t leave it out!

How do I store leftovers?

Here’s one recipe you don’t have to let cool first! Store your energy balls right away in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months. To make it easier to store them, I recommend flash-freezing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet for an hour and then dumping them all into a large freezer-safe bag. Then, once a week, I grab a handful and let them thaw in the fridge overnight.

Serving suggestions

I have plenty of other energy ball recipes to go around here on FFF. Another of my absolute favorites is these Coconut-Apricot Energy Balls. I wouldn’t have thought coconut and apricot would have worked well together… until I sampled these energy balls. I do, however, know that coconut works with rum raisin, which is why I can’t say enough about these Coconut Rum Raisin Energy Balls. They’re Paleo-friendly with a few careful ingredient picks and packed with protein. And for a vegan option, you should try these Vegan No-Bake Energy Protein Balls With Matcha, made with dates.
