A creamy, herb-packed dip that’ll make you fall in love with cottage cheese—even if you swore you never would.

Cottage cheese tends to have a bit of a PR problem. It’s the underdog of the dairy aisle—often overshadowed by its flashier cousins like Greek yogurt or sour cream. But today, we’re here to give it the spotlight it rightfully deserves. I must admit that even I wasn’t so keen on cottage cheese, until I discovered how versatile it truly is. I often eat it with fruit, nuts, and honey for breakfast but also love using it in dips. Say hello to this herbaceous, garlicky cottage cheese dip that’s not only ridiculously easy to make but also creamy, fresh, and surprisingly addictive.

Whether you’re planning a rustic garden party, whipping up a healthy snack, or just channeling your inner cottagecore nymph (linen dress and foraged bouquet optional), this dip brings the vibes. It’s wholesome yet indulgent, packed with fresh dill, chives, and that cozy, nostalgic tang only cottage cheese can deliver. Prepare to be surprised—this isn’t your grandma’s curds and whey.

Is This Cottage Cheese Dip Healthy?

In a word: yes! Cottage cheese is having a moment in the wellness world, and for good reason. It’s high in protein, relatively low in fat, and offers a solid dose of calcium and B vitamins. It also keeps you fuller longer—which makes this dip not just a tasty snack, but a smart one, too.

Plus, we’re loading this up with fresh herbs like dill and chives, which bring not just flavor but also antioxidants and nutrients. Garlic and onion powder add depth without the need for processed ingredients or added sugar. There’s no cream cheese or mayo here—just simple, nourishing components blended into something better than the sum of its parts.

The Great Cottage Cheese Comeback

Once relegated to sad diet plates and retro salad bars, cottage cheese is making a quiet but mighty comeback. Why? It’s versatile, packed with nutrients, and it blends into just about anything—from pancakes to pasta to, yes, a swoon-worthy dip.

Texture-wise, it’s often misunderstood. But when whipped in a food processor, cottage cheese transforms into something luxuriously smooth—think ricotta meets Greek yogurt with a subtle tang. In this dip, it becomes the perfect creamy canvas for herbs and seasoning. It’s like discovering your awkward childhood friend is actually a fashion icon now—surprising, but it just works.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Leftover cottage cheese dip should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge, where it will stay fresh for up to 4-5 days. Just make sure to give it a good stir before serving again, as some natural separation might occur.

Serving Suggestions

This dip is a dreamy companion for crisp veggies like carrots, cucumbers, radishes, and bell peppers. It’s also perfect with pita chips, Flaxseed Crackers, or even smeared on rye toast for a quick savory breakfast. Want to host a full cottagecore picnic? Serve it alongside a wooden board of fresh fruit, crusty bread, and a few hard-boiled eggs for a scene straight out of a cookbook.

Feeling bold? Try it as a base layer in a wrap or on a sandwich—it pairs beautifully with smoked salmon, roasted turkey, or Grilled Eggplant.

Tasty Cottage Cheese Dip

Serves: 8
Prep: 5 minutes minutes
Total: 5 minutes minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill
  • 2 tablespoons chives chopped
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Measure out all ingredients and add them to a food processor.
  • Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as you go.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Enjoy!

Tips & Notes:

Fresh is Best: Fresh herbs will inject life into your dip. If they look wilted, discard them for something with a bit more life and color to them.
Garlic Control: Start small. If you don’t already know, garlic is potent; adding even a bit more can totally spoil the dip and overpower the other ingredients.
Quality Cheese: Like most dairy, there are different types of cottage cheese, based mostly on the milk fat percentage. As this is a dip, I recommend opting for a cottage cheese cream (i.e., 4 % M.F. or higher).
Cool it Down: Although it’s tempting to dig in straight away, make time to let it chill in the fridge for at least an hour. The flavors will meld and make for a tastier dip.
