There’s probably only a very small percentage of people who don’t enjoy eating potato chips. I certainly do, whether as a late-night snack while watching a movie or as a side to a hearty sandwich. The problem is that finding chips that are healthy and still taste good can be a challenge. There are enough choices at the store, but some just don’t cut it. It can be a tough balance to find. However, I think I’ve found that balance with sweet potato chips prepared in an air fryer.

You don’t have to worry about sacrificing taste or your health goals with sweet potato chips. Sweet potatoes are naturally flavorful, even when you turn them into chips. Plus, in the air fryer, they’ll always come out crunchy. Just add a little bit of salt and pepper for seasoning, and they’re done. It doesn’t get easier (or tastier!) than that!

Are Air-Fryer Sweet Potato Chips Healthy?

Yes, air-fryer sweet potato chips are a healthier alternative to traditional chips. Cooking them in the air fryer reduces grease and oil, helping to keep these chips low in fat and calories. Sweet potatoes are also high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are especially high in beta-carotene (which the body converts to vitamin A) and vitamin C.

If you’re watching your sodium intake, feel free to omit the salt or use another seasoning, such as garlic powder.

Room To Experiment

Part of what’s great about this recipe is its simplicity. Besides the sweet potatoes, a little bit of salt, pepper, and olive oil are the only ingredients. However, if you’re craving a little more flavor, feel free to experiment with other seasonings. I’ve found garlic powder and paprika are great complements to the natural taste of sweet potato chips. Depending on your preference, Italian or Cajun seasoning can also add a nice kick to your chips. I’ve also put cinnamon on sweet potato chips, which creates a sweet and unique flavor.

If there are leftover chips, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week.

Serving Suggestions

Sweet potato chips in an air fryer usually taste great on their own, but having a dip alongside them doesn’t hurt either. If you’d prefer something with a little more zip, I would recommend Onion Ring Sauce, which may not seem like an obvious choice but does go well with sweet potato chips.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Wash and thinly slice the sweet potatoes using a mandolin slicer for uniform thickness.

  • Soak the slices in cold water for 10 minutes to remove excess starch, then pat dry with a towel.
  • Toss the dried sweet potato slices with olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

  • Arrange the slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 360°F for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy.
