Hi Sunday peeps!
Today, I have something really quick that I wanted to share with you, that I’ve been thinking about this week.
Something that I’ve been looking at in my own life is “who am I calling out to?”
In 1 Kings 18, we find the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal having a “duel.” The prophets are to prove that Baal is god by calling down fire onto their bull sacrifice.
Verse 26 says, “Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.”
And then verse 29 says, “Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.”
Did you catch that? They called on him from morning to noon and NOTHING. The day went on and still NADA.
No response. No god even paid attention to them…because they were calling out to false gods.
But, when Elijah calls on the name of The Lord? WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY. Which you should read ?
It got me wondering, what false gods am I calling out to, begging them to somehow show their power in my life and fulfill me.
Is it my body? Is it my job? My relationship? And, if I am honest, I find myself “calling out” to all of these things on a regular basis.
And, you know what? Just like it says, “there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention” that is the exact experience I have when I look to these worldly things, and they (accidentally) become gods in my life.
They don’t fill me. They leave me empty. They do NOTHING FOR ME. I have to KEEP calling to them, because they never leave me feeling sustained.
But those moments where I cling to God and call to Him to fill me? The COMPLETE opposite. It’s lasting. It’s fulfilling. I have peace and joy and so many other things. God actually ANSWERS.
And that is what I am trying to do more often. It’s so easy to call out to the world, when that is what we are surrounded with. But, we have to look UP to the one who will fulfill our every need.
So, who are you calling out to?

thank you for that message made me think am I giving God the glory when I have a victory or am I giving credit to someone or something else or even taking the credit myself need to remember who my God is and that He always answers So thank you

“But we have to look UP to the one who will fulfill our every need”
I love it. Too often we are looking around of us trying to make something/someone fill a need that only God can fill.

Exactly Gabby! So glad you enjoyed this <3

Good reflection;thanks for sharing and for your vulnerability. Elsewhere in Scripture it also says, Why do you seek after things that do not satisfy? That deep, inner longing in our hearts (the “God shaped vacumn” as some theologian said) can only be filled by the One who created us. We are meant to be His, and not “of this world”. It is so alluring. It tells us we should be this or that, or we should do or eat this or that, or we are entitled to this or that. Because of sin and our “fallen nature”, all we really are entitled to is damnation. Jesus saved us from that, and our own worst enemy at times, ourselves. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.” Let’s all remember that greatest gift of all as we prepare, joyfully and thankfully, this Christmas. John 10:10. Thanks again!

I love this!! You are so right…we are only entitled to damnation. BUT GOD saved us from that, which is so much more than we deserve, because HE is so good <3

Very good Taylor! I look into myself, the people I am close to, and talk to God. When I talk I feel much better. This happened over One and a half years ago, when my husband had to have lung surgery. While driving on a pretty day, I started talking and telling God that now was not my husband’s time to leave. It all worked out fine.

I am so glad to hear this Joanne! <3 I love talking to God too..it makes things feel better

He even asks us to call upon Him! He is seeking US! He wants to bless us with so much more and yet how often do we first turn to the world. Thank you for sharing this Taylor!
Taylor Kiser says
YES! Isn’t it AWESOME to know we have the Lord of the universe wanting to be with US!! 🙂

Wow this is convicting to think of how often I allow myself to try and call out to these false gods like human approval or workouts or exercise or food to fill me up, and I’m always left empty and wanting. Yet when we call upon the name of the living and true God we are NEVER left wanting.
Taylor Kiser says
EXACTLY girlfriend! So convicting for me as well, as I find myself calling out to the same things!
