The delectable holiday hors d’oeuvre everyone’s going to be talking about!

Every time my aunt Alexis visits for the holidays, she brings the best spinach balls I’ve ever eaten. While many people eagerly await the main course of turkey or ham, my family can’t stop talking about her homemade spinach balls and how she never seems to make enough. They always crave more! So, roll up your sleeves and get ready to double (or triple!) this recipe, because they’re that tasty!
Spinach balls are the perfect appetizer for any occasion. With the ideal balance of cheese, greens, and buttery breadcrumbs, these little bites of joy are both tasty and satisfying. Whether it’s at a winter holiday, birthday, or bridal shower, this dish is sure to be the next big hit.
I know that kids hating spinach seems to be a running joke on all Saturday morning cartoons (shoutout to The Fairly OddParents!). Maybe times have changed since that show came out in 2001, but my kids have never hated spinach. And they love it in sphere form.
Is This Spinach Balls Recipe Healthy?
Though a delicious way to sneak extra greens into your diet, these balls are especially tempting—you might find it hard to stop at just one! As long as you’re mindful of your portions, though, you should be fine. Spinach itself is rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Cheese and eggs provide protein, calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin A. And if you have any gluten-free guests or family members to cater to, you can easily substitute gluten-free breadcrumbs for the regular breadcrumbs in this recipe.

Elevate The Flavors
As it is, this dish is mild, savory, and super cheesy. But if you want to kick it up a notch, I suggest adding one teaspoon each of cumin and cayenne pepper. Adding more herbs is also a great way to elevate the flavor profile to restaurant level. My favorite herbs to add are oregano, thyme, rosemary, and basil, but feel free to experiment and find what you enjoy best.

How Do I Store Leftovers?
Whether baked or unbaked, the balls can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Bake them from frozen in the oven at 300°F for 25 minutes. In the fridge, cooked spinach balls last up to 3 days in an airtight container. To reheat, simply pop them in the oven and bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes.

Serving Suggestions
Spinach balls go great with a wide variety of sauces. Try classics such as White Sauce, Tomato Sauce, velvety Hollandaise Sauce, or my favorite: Greek Fava (Split Pea) Dip.
For other appetizers to pair them with, check out Air-Fryer Sweet Potato Fries and Zucchini Fritters. I also enjoy a good Wine Spritzer with my spinach balls as well. Hello, holiday happy hour!
