Make your next pizza night even easier—this Naan Pizza is faster (and tastier) than delivery!

Naan Pizza

Pizza night has always meant different things to my family and me. Growing up Italian, it sometimes meant inviting everyone we knew and making pizza from scratch. Other times, it meant Mom didn’t feel like cooking, so we were ordering takeout. Nowadays, it’s a chance for my kids and me to feel like we’ve made a fun meal together.

While we do sometimes make the crust ourselves, on busy weeknights, I now use a hack that’s proven to be a huge time-saver: naan bread. No waiting for hours for the dough to rise; just top, pop in the oven, and dig in.

We always have fresh or frozen naan on hand since we love snacking on it with tzatziki or serving it alongside dishes like tandoori chicken, so when a pizza craving hits, we’re never tempted to order takeout. This naan pizza is easy, delicious, and just as customizable as a traditional pizza. I usually keep it classic with pizza sauce, mozzarella, black olives, and fresh basil, but the possibilities are endless.

Is This Naan Pizza Healthy?

Easy? Yes. Healthy? Well, it’s not terribly unhealthy, but it’s not something I would serve every day, either. Store-bought naan tends to be high in saturated fat and sodium. Plus, it’s not suitable for those who are watching their carb intake. Bear in mind that most naan isn’t suitable for vegans or those who are lactose intolerant, as it’s usually made with yogurt. Though there are healthier whole-wheat varieties at the supermarket, you can also opt to make it yourself and tweak the recipe to suit your dietary needs. This Naan Recipe is easy and can be made gluten-free, for example.

The toppings, of course, will also determine how healthy your naan pizza will be. Choose a good-quality pizza sauce or make it yourself using this Pizza Sauce Recipe. You can top your pizza with any cheese you like, including low-fat and plant-based varieties. If you want to keep things as wholesome as possible, opt for vegetable toppings like mushrooms, bell peppers, red onions, artichoke hearts, and cherry tomatoes.

Best Topping Ideas

The best part about this recipe is coming up with delicious topping ideas. One of my favorite variations is skipping the pizza sauce, topping my naan with a mix of crème fraîche and mascarpone, and layering it with smoked salmon, capers, and a fresh garnish of aromatic dill. This base is also perfect for a flammekueche-style pizza. In that case, layer the pizza with thinly sliced onions, bacon, and a whisper of ground nutmeg. My daughter, who is quite the foodie, is especially fond of topping her pizza with prosciutto, sliced figs, Gorgonzola, and thyme. Want to keep it vegetarian? Try garlicky sautéed kale, roasted sweet potato, provolone cheese, and a scattering of toasted pine nuts. Give your culinary imagination free rein to run wild!

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Leftover naan pizza can be wrapped in plastic or stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. It can also be stored in the freezer (either in a Ziploc bag or freezer-safe container) for up to 3 months.

Serving Suggestions

Naan pizza is great as a snack but can also be served as a complete meal alongside a soup or salad. This delicious Olive Garden Salad, made with pepperoncini, black olives, and Parmesan, will keep those Italian vibes going, as will a hearty bowl of Minestrone Soup. If offering it as part of a snack platter, cut it into small pieces and serve it with other great finger foods such as Buffalo Chicken Wings, Onion Rings, and Air-Fryer Nachos.
