This Fried Chicken Wings Recipe will give you a lightly-battered taste of summer in the South!

Fried Chicken Wings Recipe

Growing up in the country, there were a few things I’d find on every menu in my small town: a tall glass of sweet iced tea, fresh eggs from the local farms, and fried chicken. When in doubt about what to order, what to cook for dinner, or what to bring to the neighborhood potluck, the answer was always the same. So, when I discovered this incredible (and relatively light) recipe for fried chicken wings, I was more than thrilled to try them and compare them to the ones I enjoyed back home.

And wow, did they compare! These wings are lightly fried to perfection, juicy and tender to the bone, and have a subtly spicy kick I couldn’t resist if I tried. Sprinkle some fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime over the top, and they have a remarkable flavor reminiscent of a hot and sticky summer in the South. Of course, for me, they’re reminiscent of home, which just makes ‘em taste ten times better.

All in all, these fried chicken wings take close to an hour to make. But technically, half of that is just preparing the marinade and letting them rest awhile, so pour yourself one of those tall glasses of tea and do the same while you’re waiting!

Are These Fried Chicken Wings Healthy?

I’m not going to sugarcoat it… or rather, batter it up: Anything fried typically takes a loss on “healthy” points. But as far as fried foods go, these chicken wings aren’t so bad! Chicken is a lean protein, and the ingredients in this particular recipe are relatively light. Particularly, the use of low-fat milk in the batter is much lighter than the buttermilk often used in traditional fried chicken recipes.

If you do want to go a healthier route with your chicken wings, try air-frying them instead of deep-frying. Air-frying is the healthiest way to make fried chicken wings, since there’s no added oil or fat used in the frying process.

Getting A Kick Out Of Cajun Spice

Cajun seasoning is my secret weapon in this wings recipe. It’s the perfect blend of spice, smoke, and umami, packing a punch into every single bite.

Typically, Cajun seasoning includes spices like onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne, plus others depending on who’s making it. It’s the ultimate ingredient for anyone who likes their food to have a true kick—not just of heat, but of pure, bold flavor. Once you get a taste, you’ll see why it’s such a staple in Louisiana cooking.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Fried chicken wings are best served hot and fresh, but you can easily store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat, just warm them in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit until warmed through.

Serving Suggestions

What aren’t wings good with? From game days to pool parties, I’ve enjoyed these fried chicken wings just about every way you can imagine. You can serve them alongside other classic party dishes like Potato Salad, Bacon Mac And Cheese, or Homemade French Fries. You can also go a healthier route with something like Garlic Brussels Sprouts.
