Whether drizzled over a salad or used as a dip, this Dill Sauce will add a creamy and refreshing touch!

Dill sauce in a white bowl with a spoon, fresh dill, and a lemon.

We all need a good repertoire of sauces in our lives. Whether thick, thin, spicy, or sweet, a good sauce can elevate the flavors of a meal and add that special touch that really makes it shine. What would chicken fingers be without a good barbecue sauce? Or meatloaf without gravy? (Yes, gravy is a sauce!) In fact, some sauces form the very essence of a dish. Imagine a pizza or bowl of spaghetti without a rich and hearty tomato sauce! I sure can’t! No wonder I’m always looking for new sauce recipes to add to my ever-growing collection. And this silky dill sauce is definitely one I can’t get enough of these days!

This creamy concoction will add a refreshing touch to your salads, sandwiches, chicken wings, and more. Made with dill (one of the most aromatic herbs out there) and a hint of lemon, the flavors will tantalize your taste buds and make you crave more than just a drizzle!

Is Dill Sauce Healthy?

Let’s face it, most sauces aren’t really added for health reasons, and this one is no exception. The sauce is high in fat, so either use it in moderation (though I guarantee that won’t be easy!) or tweak it by replacing the sour cream and mayo with three-quarters of a cup of low-fat yogurt and one-quarter cup of mayo. Because the dill is so fragrant, the results will still be delicious. You can also make this recipe vegan by substituting the sour cream and mayo with vegan alternatives. And if you dip some healthy veggies into this sauce (cucumbers are a match made in heaven!), you’ll have a more balanced indulgence.

Growing Fresh Dill in Your Garden

Want to develop your green thumb and save money? Many people are getting into herb gardening because herbs are some of the easiest plants to grow—and a little goes a long way! Dill, for example, is an adaptable plant that can thrive in a wide range of climates. All you need is a pot or garden space with slightly acidic soil that gets plenty of sunlight. Plant the seeds about a quarter-inch deep, spacing them six to eight inches apart. You can also start them indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost, then transplant them into your garden. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. When the plant reaches about ten inches tall, you can start harvesting the leaves to incorporate them into delicious dishes like this one.

How to make ahead and store

If stored in a mason jar, the sauce will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days. Make sure to give the jar a good shake before serving it, as natural separation might occur over time. Don’t freeze it, as the thawing process could ruin its smooth texture.

Serving Suggestions

Dip raw veggies in dill sauce, and you’ve got the perfect appetizer or snack. But if you’re looking for something a bit heartier, I recommend drizzling this over a broccoli salad, falafel bowl, or a quinoa salad. It’s also great over Poached Salmon or these Air-Fryer Beets. Try it as a dip for these Kofta Kebabs or to add some extra creaminess to a Quick Baked Potato.
