Bask in the bright and bold flavors of this refreshing Mexican beverage that takes only 10 minutes to make.

Thirsty for a non-alcoholic drink that goes down smooth and can brighten your day? Check out cucumber agua fresca.

Agua fresca means “fresh water” in Spanish, and this cool cucumber version lives up to the name. Designed with hot summer days in mind, cucumber agua fresca is refreshing and zesty, with a vibrant green color that’s out of this world – but also totally natural!

This bold beverage is made by blending fresh cucumbers with sugar, lime juice, and water. The mix is then strained and chilled, resulting in a cucumber-infused elixir that dances across the tongue and creates a nice cool-down. In just 10 minutes, you and your loved ones can whip up an awesome agua that’s way fresher than store-bought juice. Bring a jug of it to picnics or keep it handy in your fridge for parties. Kids and adults alike will adore it!

Make Two Versions: Alcoholic & Non-Alcoholic

Whether you’re at a party with both adults and kids, or an event with sober friends, creating two versions of this drink can be a great way to accommodate all guests. While this cucumber agua fresca recipe is non-alcoholic, you can spike it with silver tequila or mezcal for a margarita-inspired twist. Mezcal has a smokier flavor to it, whereas tequila is slightly sweeter, so keep this in mind when choosing your booze.

How to make ahead and store

A refrigerated jar or pitcher of cucumber agua fresca will last in the fridge for 3 to 5 days. For longer storage, keep it in the freezer (in a freezer-safe container) for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight, and stir before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Sip and savor a tall glass of cucumber agua fresca on ice with a fresh lime wedge and a garnish of mint or basil. For a little kick that’s also traditional, rim the glass with lime juice and Tajín.

This drink is also a cool companion to spicy snacks like Keto Tortilla Chips with Chipotle Salsa, Mini Bell Pepper Nachos, Mexican Cauliflower Rice, or Mexican Dip with Tortilla Strips. Relish the balance of cool cucumber and hot peppers with any of your favorite Mexican classics.
