Try this creamy, healthy, and tasty Avocado Crema on just about anything.

Some meals, no matter how good they are, still require a little something extra. One of my favorite extra ingredients – or what you might call a condiment – is this avocado crema. Naturally, it makes the most sense to use this on Tex-Mex or Southwest dishes, but you might be surprised at how versatile avocado crema can be! Even better, it can be whipped up in a few short minutes using just a handful of ingredients in either a blender or food processor. Therefore, there’s no reason not to give this a try.
How do you know if you’ll like this avocado crema? While I’m yet to find someone who doesn’t like it, it’s essentially a mix between guacamole and a Mexican crema. You just combine an avocado with either Greek yogurt or sour cream and a few other ingredients, and it makes a slightly creamier version of guacamole, so if that sounds appealing, you’ll love avocado crema.

Is Avocado Crema Healthy?
With the main ingredient of avocado crema being an avocado, you’ll be getting a dose of healthy fats and fiber from this condiment. I say it’s never a bad thing to add more avocado to your diet. You also have the choice between Greek yogurt, which is high in protein and low in saturated fat, or sour cream, which also contains calcium but is higher in saturated fat and sodium. This allows you to choose which one will be better for your dietary needs.

The Perfect Crema
With so few ingredients in this recipe, the devil is in the details when trying to make the perfect crema. It starts with choosing the right avocado, which you’ll know is ripe enough if it yields slightly when gently pressed. An avocado with this description will be just ripe for making crema.
Finding the right consistency for this avocado crema is also essential. If it comes out too thick for your taste, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time to the mixture until the consistency is to your liking. On the other hand, if it’s too runny, add more sour cream or Greek yogurt one tablespoon at a time until it thickens up. If you want, you can also add an extra half avocado to help give the crema a thicker consistency.
How to make ahead and store
Avocado crema can be made up to 8 hours ahead of time as long as you cover it with plastic wrap that’s right up against the surface and store it in the refrigerator. While it can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, avocado crema is always best to consume fresh.

Serving Suggestions
Avocado crema can be used as a dip for vegetables or Air Fryer Tortilla Chips. It can also be used as an extra topping on a variety of dishes from a Homemade Chipotle Burrito Bowl to a Healthy Chicken Quesadilla or a Southwestern Breakfast Burrito. Also, don’t be shy when adding this avocado crema to a Taco Salad or this recipe for Healthy Nachos.
