Elevate your salads and sandwiches with this creamy blend of sweet and savory flavors.

Sweet Onion Dressing

With the perfect balance of sweet and creamy, this dairy-free dressing goes great on a wide array of sandwiches and salads. You can also use it as a mouthwatering marinade for all kinds of meat or as a sauce for fish. I encourage you to serve this dressing at your next barbecue. I made a big salad for one of my holiday meals and offered my guests a variety of traditional salad dressings. Before I knew it, I was refilling the sweet onion dressing! Not only is it flavorful, it’s also incredibly easy to make. As long as you have a blender and a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a delicious sauce that only takes five minutes to make. You’ll also be able to enjoy it again and again since it lasts for up to a week in the fridge.

Whether you use it as a dressing, dip, or condiment, there’s a little something in the sauce for everyone. The blend captures the essence of sweet onions while adding tanginess from Dijon mustard. Finally, you’re getting a hint of acidity and honey to create the perfect balance for this dressing. You’ll be able to transform ordinary recipes into something unforgettable!

Is This Sweet Onion Dressing Healthy?

With how flavorful and creamy this dressing is, you might be expecting that it’s not super healthy. You’d be wrong! Not only is this dressing delicious, but it’s also full of healthy ingredients. Sweet onions are low in calories and fat while offering vitamin C, folate, fiber, and antioxidants. Apple cider vinegar is a fermented product that has antibacterial properties. Although honey is high in sugar and calories, it’s a natural sweetener that has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. As for Dijon mustard, it’s a pretty good option as far as store-bought condiments go. It is high in sodium but is much lower in fat and calories than mayonnaise. Olive oil, in particular, is known for its heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.

The Secret To Super Smooth Sauce

What’s better, a blender or a food processor? For this dressing, the smoother the better, so any high-powered blender will do. You could also use an immersion blender, but that will require a bit more time to get the right consistency. For a smooth and easy blend, make sure to start on a lower setting and work your way up to the higher ones. As you blend, you’ll want to check to be sure that the onion is fully mixed. The last thing you want is to pour dressing and see a small piece of onion in the bottle. One common belief is that you should add liquid to the blender before any other ingredients so that you create a vortex that pulls your ingredients down into the blades for a smoother blend. However, for this recipe, it’s important to pour the oil slowly while blending. This will help emulsify the mixture and create the creamy texture that you desire.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

This recipe is designed to be made and stored for up to 1 week in an airtight refrigerated jar. I like to use mason jars for ease. When you’re ready to use it, shake the dressing generously to get all of the ingredients mixed together. I don’t recommend freezing the dressing, as it could ruin the texture.

Serving Suggestions

Pour this decadent dressing over Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad or Caesar Salad for a tangy twist on some modern classics. It’s also a perfect spread to bring an extra level of flavor to a BLT Sandwich.

Aside from salads and sandwiches, this dressing also makes a marvelous marinade for Air-Fryer Bone-In Chicken Breasts or any of your favorite meat or fish. One of my favorite ways to use this dressing is poured over a pot of Shredded Slow-Cooker Roast Beef. You’ll be amazed at how the flavors all meld so well together. Craving a new condiment for your burgers? Drizzle sweet onion dressing over Salmon Burgers. Dip your fries in the dressing as well!
