A berrylicious breakfast that’ll keep you full until lunch!

Strawberry Overnight Oats

As a working parent with small kids, most mornings are a sprint to get us all out the door to school and work on time. Between packing lunches, feeding pets, and getting everyone dressed, I usually have very little time to make breakfast. And while store-bought frozen waffles or a bowl of sugary cereal are certainly convenient options, it always leaves me feeling uneasy feeding my kiddos (and myself) anything less than a nutritious breakfast. This is why I love to meal prep, and I find that overnight oats is one of the easiest breakfasts to make ahead.

Seriously, it’s as easy as pouring the contents into a jar, stirring and shaking everything together, and popping it in the fridge. With about ten minutes of your time, you’ll set yourself up the next morning for a quick and healthy breakfast that you and/or your family can feel great about eating. Oh, and did I mention that it happens to be incredibly delicious as well?

This particular recipe includes fresh strawberries and chia seeds, giving it lots of fruity flavor and fiber. The milk lends a nice creaminess, and the honey gives it a bit of sweetness without being overly sweet. Perfect for all ages, this is one hearty “get-up-and-go” breakfast that you should definitely consider adding to your rotation!

Are Strawberry Overnight Oats Healthy?

These overnight oats are high in fiber, so they’re great for digestion and keeping you feeling full. The chia seeds are also a good source of fiber, in addition to being rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, the strawberries add further nutritional value, since they contain vitamin C. Overall, these overnight oats can be considered a great healthy breakfast option.

Need a dairy-free alternative? No worries! Oat milk or coconut yogurt are both great substitutes for regular milk and still offer that same sweet creaminess we know and love. You could also swap the honey with maple syrup for a fully vegan option. This recipe is also great for those with gluten sensitivities, since oats are naturally gluten-free (just be sure to check that the label states they were processed in a gluten-free facility). If you’d like to boost the protein or add healthy fats, try sprinkling in a handful of your favorite nuts or seeds.

What Is The Best Container To Make Overnight Oats?

While you can certainly buy containers specifically designated as overnight oats jars, the truth is any jar with an airtight lid will work. It just needs to be large enough to fit all the ingredients with enough room at the top for stirring and shaking—between 8 and 16 ounces would work. I prefer to use 16-ounce mason jars, but in the past I’ve also reused empty jam or jelly jars. Also, here’s a tasty tip: If you’ve used up the last of a jar of peanut butter or almond butter, try making these overnight oats in the empty jar. Whatever remnants of nut butter that’s left in the jar will mix with the oats and strawberries and deliver a delicious PB&J taste!

Can I Prep This Ahead?

The beauty of overnight oats is you can make them ahead and store them in the fridge for the next morning. You can even make several jars at once to prep multiple breakfasts for the week. As long as you use well-sealed jars, they will last in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months. Just leave an empty space at the top to allow for expansion. Place them in the fridge to thaw overnight.

Serving Suggestions

While this little jar of joy tastes great on its own, served fresh and cold in the morning, it also goes well with other breakfast fare like Easy-Baked Eggs In Avocado or Jammy Eggs. I’d also highly suggest washing your oats down with a delicious Iced Latte.

Want to add a bit of crunch? Try sprinkling some of this Protein Granola over top. Also, a scoop of this Strawberry Sauce would make these overnight oats even more berrylicious!
