You don’t need to go anywhere or pay a lot of money to get a perfect iced coffee!

During a hot summer day—whether it’s first thing in the morning or the middle of the afternoon—nothing hits the spot quite like an iced coffee. For whatever reason, most people think the only way to enjoy a delicious iced coffee is to visit a coffee shop or a coffee chain that will probably overcharge you. But it doesn’t have to be like that. If you can brew a cup of coffee at home, you can just as easily make the perfect iced coffee, too.

In fairness, making iced coffee at home sometimes means anticipating that you’ll want an iced coffee hours in advance. This is because you’ll want to put your hot coffee in the fridge for a little while, and you’ll also want to make sure you have ice cubes ready. But as long as you have ground coffee or whole coffee beans, ice cubes, and your favorite type of milk or creamer, you can have iced coffee from the comfort of your home. If you love iced coffee, this will save you a lot of money in the long run—not to mention the inconvenience of having to visit a coffee shop.

Bold and strong iced coffee

When you’re brewing coffee to make iced coffee, it’s usually a good idea to brew it a little stronger than you normally would. Keep in mind that the ice cubes will water down the coffee a little.

One great idea to avoid watering down your iced coffee with ice cubes is to make coffee ice cubes. Simply fill up an ice tray with room-temperature brewed coffee (be sure to let it cool off before you pour it in a plastic ice tray!). After a few hours in the freezer, you’ll have coffee ice cubes for your iced coffee. You might even try using a different type of coffee for the ice cubes than for the iced coffee to mix different flavors together.

How do I store leftovers?

Store your iced coffee in a pitcher in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Serving suggestions

If you have time to relax with an iced coffee, it’s nice to have a sweet snack to go with it. My favorite thing to have with coffee is White Chocolate Biscotti With Crushed Candy Canes (Whole-Wheat, Low-Calorie/Fat & Zero Butter). Naturally, a piece of coffee cake goes well with any type of coffee. Personally, I enjoy Paleo Apple Gluten-Free Coffee Cake, although others might prefer a Vegan Coffee Cake. Another good complement to iced coffee is a creamy serving of Vanilla Pudding or Chocolate Pudding.
