Eat the rainbow with this deliciously healthy and refreshing Fruit Salad Recipe!

Fruit Salad Recipe

We are so blessed to live in an age where we have access to so many different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Our markets are teeming with tropical fresh fruit that, a century ago, would’ve only been accessible to avid travelers. Fruit salads, as we know them today, were probably first made in the mid-19th century. These days, vibrant fruit salads are served at brunches all over the globe, and the variations are endless!

Best described as a “mouthful of summertime,” this classy fruit salad combines tropical kiwis, succulent citrus, and bountiful berries with a delightful honey and citrus dressing. This dish makes a great breakfast, snack, or even dessert. Whether you make it once or a thousand times, it will leave you feeling good inside and out.

While this particular fruit salad does call for specific fruits and berries, you can mix and match as your heart (and taste buds!) desire.

Is This Fruit Salad Healthy?

While many store-bought fruit salads are laden with corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, this mix is 100% natural. Fruit is high in fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins and minerals. Plus, fruit also has a high water content, keeping you well-hydrated. When it comes to staying hydrated on a hot summer day, along with water, this recipe is a game changer. To make this recipe vegan, feel free to replace the honey with maple syrup.

My Ultimate Fruit Salad Seasoning

A solid fruit salad recipe usually has some kind of sweet, syrupy dressing to help the different fruits harmonize. This creates a juicy rainbow of flavors that will make your palate sing! I have some recommendations that will elevate your fruit salad even more, starting with spices. Into the citrus-honey dressing, mix a half teaspoon each of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and cloves. This creates a warm, earthy, and aromatic flavor that delights the palate. Additionally, I like to incorporate chopped fresh mint into the dressing, not just as a garnish. Try it out—this tantalizing combo won’t disappoint.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Fruit salad can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, but it tastes best when it’s fresh. Keep in mind that as time passes, the fruits will soften as they sit in the juices, but this can actually end up being a great base for smoothies or jams.

Serving Suggestions

Fruit salad is a great side dish to any breakfast or brunch, but I especially like it on top of homemade Frozen Yogurt. Other favorite ways to enjoy it include topping a savory Breakfast Bowl, or serving alongside a stack of your favorite cottage cheese pancakes.
