This Deep-Fried Cauliflower is the MVP of vegan snacks and apps!

Deep Fried Cauliflower

One of my not-so-guilty pleasures in life, especially these days, is deep-fried cauliflower. Growing up in a family heavily involved in sports, weekends were often dedicated to big watch parties, back-to-back sporting events, and game-day meals. And if you’re at all involved in the sports culture, you know game-day meals aren’t always the healthiest options. I’m talking pizza, potato skins, buffalo wings—the works!

While my family has never been much into mindful eating, I have tried to become more health-conscious as I’ve grown up. Don’t get me wrong, I love indulging in some greasy finger food once in a while. But for the most part, I try to substitute those deep-fried foods with better choices. That’s what led me to my absolute LOVE of deep-fried cauliflower!

Deep-fried cauliflower is normally found on the vegan and vegetarian menus at restaurants because it makes for a great alternative to fried chicken. I didn’t discover this vegan decadence until later in life, but once I did, it was GAME TIME! Deep-fried cauliflower is crunchy and indulgent. It’s everything you could want out of your traditional chicken tenders or buffalo wings, except that it’s meatless and made of veggies! Seriously, if you’re trying to up your vegetable intake, give this a try.

When I finally took the time to learn how to make deep-fried cauliflower myself, it totally changed my game-day routine. Now, you’ll find it on every platter, in front of every screen at my house. Especially on Sundays, when we are exclusively binge-watching football and indulging in snacks all day long.

Is Deep-Fried Cauliflower Healthy?

Given that deep-fried cauliflower was created as a substitute for fried chicken, it’s definitely the healthier alternative. That said, it’s still deep-fried food, and deep-fried is hard to justify, except that it’s totally decadent and delicious. If you’re looking for a meatless option on your cheat days, however, deep-fried cauliflower is the move! I guess what I’m saying is, go ahead and enjoy in moderation!

What About The Sauce?

Deep-fried cauliflower, like your average wings, is all about the sauce. You can totally customize your dish to your own palate, from spicy to sweet to savory! For the ultimate flavor experience, some of the best sauces to try with your deep-fried cauliflower are Parmesan-Garlic Sauce (for a rich and creamy flavor without the spice), Buffalo Sauce (for a classic wing-inspired taste), and Sweet Chili Sauce (for the perfect balance of sweet and heat; not going to lie, this one is definitely my go-to choice).

How to make ahead and store

This deep-fried cauliflower is best enjoyed fresh, but it will stay good in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, reheat the cauliflower in the oven at 425°F for about 10 minutes (or until heated through.)

Serving Suggestions

I love making deep-fried cauliflower as a game-day dish, so I serve it alongside a spread of other classics like Sweet Potato Fries and Vegan Meatballs.
