Similar to guacamole but not. It’s a creamy avocado spread that makes for a green feast.

Avocado Spread

Three things I love. The beach, avocados, and bread. Or four, espresso is at the top! This spread is similar to avocado toast, a classic Californian (or Australian) breakfast dish (not sure who came up with it first so I’ll give credit to both) and reminds me of early morning beach walks and coffee runs. Waking with the sun and treating myself to a coffee and avocado spread at a local coffee shop. Even if there is no “food” menu, just an assortment of freshly baked pastries, oceanside cities in Cali love their avocado toast and you can count on it being on the menu. Smooth, healthy, easy and delicious. Avocado spread is great on a slice of toast or with crackers and chopped veggies for dipping.

Is Avocado Spread Healthy?

This recipe is as clean as it gets. It is fully plant-based and incorporates nutrient-dense ingredients. The primary ingredient, avocado, is rich in healthy fats, and provides fiber, potassium, and vitamins such as vitamin C and vitamin A. The tangy and sharp taste from the garlic, not only adds flavor but a nice immune system boost, too. Garlic’s high sulfur content also seems to make for a great cold and flu fighter.

Fresh Bread for Your Spread…

I love to pair this spread with two things. Toasted, fresh bread and Late July chips. A sturdy, thick-sliced, whole-grain bread is the best with this spread. I also really enjoy toasting mine but you don’t have to. Well-toasted bread provides a sturdy base, with crisp edges and a soft center which makes for a great contrast against the smooth avocado. Also, if you have never had Late July chips I suggest you pick some up. They are my favorite store-bought chips and offer a variety of different flavors such as jalapeño lime, sea salt and nacho cheese. Fair warning, they are too good so I can’t keep them around the house and usually only buy them for special occasions. Hard to control myself with these ones.

How to make ahead and store

The perfect avocado spread is made with ripe Hass avocados. Ensure the avocados have no dips or crevices, and check to see how firm they feel. Once you mash all your ingredients together place plastic wrap tightly over the bowl and make sure you spread it on tight to eliminate air pockets, which helps keep it fresh. This method works better than an airtight container because it sits on top of the spread, protecting it from losing its vibrant green color. This dip lasts in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make sure to give it a stir before you re-serve and freshen it up with some more lemon juice.

Serving Suggestions

This avocado spread is quick and easy, and ready in minutes with minimal effort. What is not to love? It is mild yet flavorful, and versatile enough to top your tacos, spread on toast for an early breakfast or brunch. I mean, there is no need to limit yourself, I have also mixed it with my tofu scramble and spread it on sandwiches, bagels or in a hummus wrap.

It makes for a beautiful salad topper as well. Pair with cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, and freshly chopped parsley and you have a gorgeous salad in no time. I’d be curious to know how you like it best, give it a try and share with a friend. Or, if you are like me and almost always have one too many ripe avocados on your hands, take a peek at these healthy recipes all made with one or more avocados; Cucumber Avocado Salad, Avocado Smoothie, and Vegan Breakfast Avocado Cookies.
