These garlic and soy Air-Fryer Mushrooms make the perfect side dish and can also be used in many dishes.

Sometimes, I’m like, “What have I not air-fried yet?” This led me to these stellar air-fryer mushrooms. It also made me wonder about the history of mushrooms.

Mushrooms have been used for medicinal purposes and enjoyed as food in many cultures for thousands of years. There are over ten thousand types of mushrooms, two thousand of which are edible, and they have numerous health benefits. Mushrooms were not popular in the States until the late 1800s, but have now become widely accepted and used in a wide variety of delicious dishes.

When I was little, I only loved mushrooms on pizza, and now that I’m an adult, I love them on practically everything. I think they are a perfect side to a nice cut of steak or other robust meats. Mushrooms have also become my go-to for breakfast. When I need something warm and hearty, I make a healthy mushroom frittata or simply serve them on toast, perhaps with a fried egg.

You will love these air-fryer mushrooms because they are simple and so savory. The best part? You probably already have all the ingredients to make them!

Air Fryer Mushrooms

Are Air-Fryer Mushrooms Healthy?

Yes! Air-fryer mushrooms are healthy. There are many benefits to eating mushrooms. Mushrooms are high in antioxidants and a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Additionally, mushrooms are low in calories and carbs. Since we use the air fryer, this recipe requires minimal oil. This recipe is vegetarian, vegan, and keto!

Cleaning Mushrooms

There are two camps when it comes to cleaning mushrooms. Some say washing is not advised because mushrooms are like sponges and will absorb a lot of water (potentially ruining a dish), and others don’t see the problem in giving them a quick rinse (or even soak, if they are particularly grimy). Basically, it depends on the type of mushroom. Most store-bought mushrooms will only require gentle cleaning with a soft brush or damp towel. Foraged mushrooms, especially those with frilly gills, may need a good rinse or quick soak. In that case, the most important thing is to do so shortly before cooking and make sure that the mushrooms are dried thoroughly before they hit the pan.

We’re using baby bella mushrooms in this recipe. In this case, a damp towel or brush will suffice.

How to Make Ahead and Store

Although air-fryer mushrooms are best eaten immediately, they can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. To reheat, place them in a single layer in the air fryer at 400°F for about 5 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

These air-fryer mushrooms are a great side dish for something juicy like an Oven-Cooked Top Sirloin Steak. They go well with the flavors of this Easy Sesame Chicken.

In addition to being a great side, I love to stir these tasty air-fryer mushrooms through a fragrant Truffle Risotto or serve them on Avocado Toast. They’re also practically made for this elegant Cheese Omelette. So many possibilities!
