Ingredients
- Lemon wedge optional, for rimming the glass
- Sugar optional, for rimming the glass
- 2 ounces brandy or cognac
- 1 ounce orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- 3/4 ounce lemon juice freshly squeezed
- Lemon twist optional, for garnish
Instructions
- To sugar the rim, run a lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe or cocktail glass, then dip the edge into a shallow dish of superfine sugar until evenly coated. Place the glass in the refrigerator to stay cold while you prepare the cocktail.
- Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the brandy or cognac, orange liqueur, and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

- Shake the mixture vigorously until it's chilled, about 15-20 seconds or until the shaker feels frosty.

- Strain the mixture into your prepared cocktail glass, being careful not to disturb the sugar rim.

- Garnish with a lemon twist and serve immediately.
