Ingredients
- 1 pound dried Great Northern beans rinsed
- 1 large ham bone or ham hock
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 large onion chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 6 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place the rinsed beans, ham bone, carrots, celery, onion, and garlic into the slow cooker.

- Pour the chicken broth over the ingredients. Add the bay leaf and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.

- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the beans are tender. Remove the ham bone, shred any remaining meat, and return the meat to the soup. Discard the bay leaf before serving.
