Hawaiian meatballs served over white rice with pineapple chunks, sesame seeds, and fresh herbs.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground turkey
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Optional: chopped cilantro, sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and milk. Mix until well combined. Gently roll into 1 1/2 inch balls, making sure to avoid packing the meat too tightly, and place on the baking sheet.

  • Bake meatballs for 20 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

  • In a medium saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, water, crushed pineapple, and vinegar. Bring to a boil.

  • Whisk together cornstarch and cold water until the cornstarch is dissolved. Pour into boiling sauce and stir until thickened. Reduce to a simmer.
  • Serve meatballs over rice and top with sauce. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds, if desired.
