Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk divided
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the waffle iron. In a microwave-safe bowl, mix chocolate chips with 1/2 cup milk. Microwave for 25 seconds, stir, and repeat until melted and smooth.

  • Add the remaining milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and eggs to the melted chocolate. Whisk well until the mixture is smooth.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, and granulated sugar.

  • Add the wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir gently until mixed, avoiding overmixing.

  • Lightly spray or brush your preheated waffle iron with oil or nonstick cooking spray. Spoon about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of batter into each section of the iron.

  • Close the waffle iron and cook for about 4-7 minutes or until the waffles are crisp on the outside and cooked through.

  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings if desired.
