Are you ready for installment #2 of the different fitness class series?
AKA: The Death To Taylor Series.
Seriously you guys, today’s class really kicked my bootay.
And I thought that BOOTY BARRE kicked it. No siree Bob.
This week I am going to tell you about Ultimate Core.
Doesn’t the name itself just sound painful?
So. Ultimate Core. It’s exactly like how it sounds. It’s the ultimate class because you get resistance AND cardio, and it works ever single muscle in your body.
We started off warming up on “The Curve.” Have you guys ever heard of this machine?
I affectionately call it “Hell.”
I first learned of this torture device when I went to Core5 Studio for my fitness assessment and I had to run a mile on this baby. Easy Peasy, I thought.
“The Curve” is a treadmill. That has NO electricity. The ONLY way that it moves is by your own momentum. If you want to go faster, run faster. Wanna go slower? Slow down.
I seriously had no idea how much of the work the electrical part of treadmills (or dreadmills as I call them) did until I met this beast.
Plus, it’s curved so it makes you run with perfect posture. Which is good. Good…but hard.
I complain a lot eh? Anyway.
After our warm up, the workout began. Gulp.
We were split into 4 groups and there were 4 different station. There were 2 cardio stations and 2 resistance stations
At each station we had to alternate between 2 different moves. We did each move for 1 minute and then switched. We did this for a total of 7 minutes, and then moved onto the next station.
Ultimately (haha, get it?) we only really worked out for 30 minutes.
30 minutes of death.
But, also, 30 minutes of fun! I seriously loved it.
Here’s what we did at the stations:
1: Push up holds into shoulder presses with dumbbells (resistance)
2. Jacobs ladder (HARD!) into Planks (Cardio)
3. Reverse lunges with a plyo jump into abdominal flutter kicks (resistance)
4. Squat holds into rowing machine (cardio)
Would I do it again?
IN A HEARTBEAT.
It was hard, but I like hard.
I think I liked it better than booty barre! If you can find a gym that offers something similar – TAKE IT!
That’s it for this week…stay tuned for some other fun exercise review next week ya’ll!
