As I continue working with Kohl’s in our series about simple ways to #MakeYourMove to a healthy lifestyle this year, I want to discuss something that is often really overlooked: sleep.
I find that ESPECIALLY right around now, while everyone is too busy focusing on LOSING THAT WEIGHT, and getting all up in the gym, sleep is extra-super-duper overlooked.
But, how can we expect to be able to give it our ALL when we’re runnin’ on empty?
And, let’s be real for a sec peeps, do you REALLY need to look at Instagram to see what your BFF foreva ate for dinner that night? If it was THAT good, she’ll text you.
Not only does sleep affect our energy levels, it also affects our hunger levels AND feelings of fullness. You know those all-nighters that you pulled to study back in high school? There’s a reason why they were always LOADED with food because you couldn’t get FULL.
AND, there was also a reason why you weren’t eatin’ no kale salads during that all night study sesh. When we’re tired, not only do we want to eat more, we don’t want to eat the RIGHT things.
We crave convenience and sugar all wrapped up in a chocolate bar. You know it’s true.
By now ya’ll better be taking a nap on your keyboard.
HOW-EV-ER, if you’re not. I have another GET YOUR SLEEP RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IT’S GOOD FOR YOU, point.
It wreaks HAVOC on your stress levels. Remember when we talked about making living a healthy lifestyle NOT stressful?
Ya, not catchin’ those Z’s is not gonna help that ONE.TINY.BIT.
And, if we we’re going to be honest with ourselves, is it really hard to get more sleep? I mean, don’t you WANT TO.
So, put down that phone.
The picture of your friend’s salad will be there to tomorrow.

Heated Electric Blanket – Seriously. Have you guys tried a heated blanket? I have one and am TOTALLY obsessed and in L-O-V-E with it. I get cold SO easily, so being toasty roasty warm is KEY for me to get a full night’s sleep. I fall asleep SO much easier when I’m warm.
Eye Mask and Ear Plug Set – I KNOW I KNOW, your grandma used to wear these things. BUT, you’re grandma probably got a whole lot better sleep than you. If you live in a busy, noisy area sometimes you really just need to block out the extra noise. The eye mask also works great for me because we have the thinnest blinds in the UNIVERSE, and I am a really light sleeper. No longer does the light harass my eyeballs way too early in the morning!
