If I was really honest with you and told you exactly HOW long I have been trying to copy and paste banana emojis from my phone to the blog, you would judge me.
But, I give up. There will be no banana emojis in this post. SAD DAY.
And, yes, I am aware there is an emoji keyboard for macs. But I am a non-fancy PC user. CRY FOR ME.
Anyway. Back to bananas. Or, really, back to my trip to Charlotte, North Carolina for the DOLE Fresh Fest a few weeks back!
I had a chance to visit the Dole Nutrition Institute along with some other fab bloggers (some which I had met a week prior at the Medjool Summit. SO COOL to see them again!) and some Registered Dietitians!
The trip started rather late, as I didn’t even get to dinner until it was half over, as my plane didn’t land until 7. BUTBUTBUT, I still got to EAT. No bananas though. YET. The first day was basically just dinner -à sleep. We had to prepare for all the fun the next day!
The next day started bright and early as my crazy-pants-self decided to walk to the YMCA about 15 minutes away, IN THE RAIN, because the hotel didn’t have an on-site gym. OH YEAH, and I got up at 5:30am EST. WHICH IS 2:30AM MY TIME. #COMMITMENT.
Or crazy. Maybe both? Probably more crazy.
After that, we had a healthy breakfast (Greek yogurt with fresh DOLE berries and smoked trout. NUM in my TUM) and then headed out to visit the Dole Nutrition Institute!
YOU GUYS. This place is literally A PALACE! Did you see my photos on Instagram? Practically the entire place was made of marble! AND there was a super cool fruit/veggie/bald eagle stained glass window on the ceiling. Can I just move in there please?
We spend the afternoon touring around, seeing all the super-cool labs where they SERIOUSLY study fruits and veggies. We’re talking about breaking it down to EVERY last nutrient, and testing how each fruit and veggie affects the body in many different ways.
I even got to sit in the “Bod Pod” and get my muscle mass and body fat ratio tested. I would share the results, but I don’t want anyone to fall into the “body comparison” trap, as I know that place way too well.
Anyway. We even learned that bananas have a better effect than sports drinks for pre and post workout fuel! Hence the banana references. I’ll take one of those ANY day over colored sugar water thank you very much!
After that we had lunch (I had the most amazing roasted veggie chicken salad with sherry pistachio vinaigrette and taro chips EVER OF MY LIFE) and then went on to taste some new salad products.
Followed IMMEDIATELY after by an AMRAP workout. Like “as many reps as possible.” Like, RIGHT after food.
I almost died. BUT I DID IT. Cheer me on from across the screen!
To end the Fresh Fest we watched a Dole Chef create 3 easy and delicious recipes, and then ate a delicious dinner of our own. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Fresh Fest without Dole Jeopardy!
We named our team “Kombucha on Tap” (don’t ask) AND WE WON.
Basically the perfect end to a super-fun, fruit and veggie packed trip! I got a really great nutrition handbook, and I’m hoping to read through it and share what I learn in some upcoming posts!
See ya tomorrow!
