I’m really excited for today’s post guys.
I know, I’m ALWAYS excited for today’s post, HOW-EV-ER today I get to natter at you about something that is near and dear to my heart – Facts Up Front.
You may not be familiar with the name Facts Up Front, but I can guarantee that you have seen the label in grocery stores, as there are more than 50 manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers who have implemented it! Facts Up Front is the label that you see on the front of packages of food that displays key information from the nutrition facts panel. The label shows the calories per serving of the food, as well as information on the saturated fats, sodium and sugar, which are 3 nutrients that we should be limiting in our diet.
Hello important-information-directly-in-front-of-your-eyeballs! Yessss.
Additionally, the Facts Up Front Label may also have information on a couple nutrients that we should be getting MORE of as part of a healthful diet. This information only appears if the product contains at least 10 percent of the daily value per serving of that nutrient, which qualifies that product to be considered a “good source” of that nutrient.
Don’t ya’ll just love this? It makes making healthful choices SO EASY. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find trying to make informed choices a total headache! The Facts Up Front label is so prevalent in grocery stores that it really helps take away all that I-don’t-know-if-this-is-a-good-choice-for-me-or-not-so-should-I-buy-it stress away.
Some quick background info: Facts Up Front is a voluntary initiative by the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Food Marketing Institute. It was launched in 2011 and is currently the most significant reform on food and beverage labeling in over 20 years.
Whoa guys, If that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what will!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. You just pay shipping and handling…
I’m kidding, but there is A LOT more!
